Spring is here and we are looking forward to this season of growth. Spring brings the launch of our busy volunteer season as homebuyers and volunteers work together on homes in the Baxter and Roosevelt Park neighborhoods and we continue our work in neighborhood engagement here as well.

This past fall we finished our first-ever, all-electric home that will not only benefit the homeowner but the planet – and we plan to do three more this year!  We also re-launched our Women’s Build, which brough together over 15 strong, confident women to work on three homes, and we look forward to more builds this summer.

Spring brings energy and we are excited for this momentum to propel us into busy building season.  We hope you can join us!

Home Dedications for New Ave and our Carbon Footprint Build

Home dedications are always cause for celebration. The day the New Ave homes were dedicated to Muya and Halima and Richard and Aline, it was pouring rain, but the joy of both families shone brightly.

Allison's home dedication was for the Carbon Footprint Build on London Ave, our first all-electric house (learn more below).

Partnerships Help Build a Greener Future

The only way to get to carbon neutrality in our homes, is to stop burning things inside them. Unfortunately, for those of us in northern climates, that hasn't been possible to do economically, until now!

We recently dedicated our Carbon Footprint Build, which was our first all-electric build. The home will not emit any greenhouse gases in its operation and will offer its family superior comfort all year round, economically. We will be testing this technology more extensively this year and look forward to a future where we can provide affordable housing that also preserves God's creation for the next generation to enjoy!

Women of Habitat Kent Council and Build

The Women of Habitat Kent have been active this quarter, working on recruitment, volunteer opportunities, and planning for the year ahead. Members are passionate about empowering other women to make a difference in affordable housing in Kent County.

Women gathered in early March for our first Women's Build of 2022! It was a great day, filled with enthusiasm and new skill-building. Members are looking forward to more Builds later this year!

Listening to Our  Roosevelt Park Neighbors

Last summer and fall we conducted our fourth round of surveys and focus groups since 2013 in our focus neighborhood, Roosevelt Park.

The survey aims to connect with neighbors, asking them what they like about living in the area and changes they would like to see. The results will help us work alongside residents so that together, we can help the community reach its goals and be a place where all residents can thrive.

This year, 111 people completed the survey and seven participated in the focus groups.
