Habitat Kent Happenings

Congratulations to the newest Habitat Kent Homeowners!

This fall we launched our new Accelerated Homeownership Program to preserve the stock of affordable homes in Kent County and help families get into houses more quickly. Three families have already closed on homes through this program including Maria (pictured above) and her family.

Read more about the Accelerated Homeownership Program and Maria's journey to becoming the first homeowner in her family.

A note from our Executive Director

During this holiday season, we as an organization reflect on the inspirational year we have been blessed with and we celebrate those who helped make it happen.  We celebrate you.

We also celebrate the resiliency of Habitat homeowners, our first in-person home dedications for three amazing families and the new Accelerated Homeownership program that allows us to serve more homebuyers.

Because of partners like you, hundreds of families have a Home for the Holidays and can celebrate one another!

Blessings,
Bev Thiel

Plett Dedications

In October we celebrated the home dedications of three families moving into the Plett houses. It has been a long journey for Keira, Johnetta, Iftu (pictured above, left to right) and their families as complications from the pandemic have delayed building at various times throughout the process. But they waited patiently, stayed active and engaged and it was such a joy to gather for the first in-person (outside) dedication in over a year.

Thank you to the many supporters, volunteers and corporate partners who helped these families build their new homes!

Women of Habitat Kent

Earlier this fall we launched our Women of Habitat Kent Council! Before the initial meeting, members volunteered on one of our build-sites.

The Council will help recruit, educate, and nurture other women to build and advocate for safe, affordable housing. They will also help launch our Women of Habitat Kent group and Women Build day next year.

Habitat House Party

During our first Habitat House Party we recognized several community members and long-time Habitat partners with our "Heroes of Habitat" awards.

The awardees (as pictured above from left to right): Ken Betz & Pat Brewer - Stability Award; Fr. Len Sudlik -  Hope Award;  Patti & Karl Betz - Stability Award; and Dean Noble on behalf of Gordon Food Services - Opportunity Award.

Builders' Bash

Our Builders' Bash celebrating partner vendors, gift-in-kind donors and Carpenters' Club volunteers made a return in our garden this year!

We are so thankful for this special group of supporters who help keep our costs down and building projects on track! Click here to see more photos of the event.

There’s nothing like home for the holidays. Home is more than just four walls – it’s a safe place to grow, a foundation to build a future. A home can change lives. Join us in building a community where everyone has a home for the holidays and a chance for a better tomorrow.

Donate between now and December 31, and your gift will be DOUBLED thanks to local companies who support this mission. They will match your gift dollar for dollar up to $25,000!

If your company or group is interested in becoming a sponsor or making a gift-in-kind to help build hope, opportunity, and homes in Kent County, please contact Sarah.

Thank you to our Home for the Holidays sponsors!

Last year 20 more families became homeowners through Habitat Kent, and 15 families remained safely housed through our repair program. Learn more about what we accomplished together and our vision for the future in our 2021 Impact Report.
